This award was established to honor the memory and accomplishments of the late Craig W. Johnson, Au.D. and was presented by his daughter, Dr. Melissa Segev. Dr. Johnson was a Maryland native and opened Audiology Associates, Inc. (AAI) in 1977. He spent 36 years as a private practice audiologist in Maryland. Dr. Johnson also advocated for the profession by founding the Maryland Academy of Audiology and serving as President of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology in the mid-1990s. He was a long-time audiology advocate for patients and audiology legislative issues at both the state and national levels. Dr. Spoor had the privilege of working with Dr. Johnson while employed at AAI’s Ellicott City office. Dr. Spoor learned a great deal about the profession of audiology, private practice, and the role of audiology advocacy from Dr. Johnson.

Following in Dr. Johnson’s footsteps, Dr. Spoor, along with other dedicated audiologists, professional organizations, healthcare professionals, patients, family members, and friends are constantly dedicating time and efforts to make legislative and regulatory changes, often to benefit patients and their level of care. Dr. Spoor is the 2010 President of the Maryland Academy of Audiology, former Legislative Chair of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology, and currently the Treasurer of ADA.
